TUSMØRKE – DAWN OF OBERON (2024) (Karisma Records)

Tusmørke have been releasing their albums on an almost yearly basis since their first in 2012 and “Dawn of Oberon” is due on 30th August. Described as “the most atavistically trollish, acid-drenched band to come out of Norway”, they describe this album as “a manifestation of” their “Peter Pan syndrome”. By their own admission they are “away with the fairies”, and, whilst unique, may appeal to fans of JETHRO TULL or GONG. Prog woven into folk might be a good way to describe the music with the 18-minute title track featuring some strident rock organ and flittering flute work. The sample track on Bandcamp ‘Dwarven Lord’ is a spacey kind of song, while the title ‘Midsommernattsdrøm’ shows you where they are at, conceptually. Mendelssohn would have been amazed!
