PHIL HARGREAVES PLUS MALCHAMECH – BEAUTIFUL DECAY (WHI MUSIC) (CD/DL)

Prepare for some free range jazz from Phil Hargreaves and his trio, impressionistic music with sounds varying from squawking gulls, insectal noises and having a real blow on tracks like ‘Nameless @ Unconstrained’. Richard Harrison supplies some clattering of drums and objects, but more than that as the metal side of the music is revealed and Richard Harding’s Chapman Sticks  provides some meaty near melodies that propel the music beyond mere avant-garde into a music that, while never an easy listen, has a beguiling quality.
