PATTERN SEEKING ANIMALS – SPOOKY ACTION AT A DISTANCE (2023) (Inside Out)

Starting with marching drums and surging synths, ’The Man Made of Stone’ reveals PSA as skilled story tellers on their 4th album since 2019. The anthemic ‘Window to the World’ references Edgar Allen Poe and Michelangelo in a clever lyric. The music is not tagged as Prog Rock on Bandcamp which is strange, possibly explained by a more commercial leaning on some of the shorter songs (possible hits in the 70s?!)

However, there are three ex SPOCK’S BEARD members on board: Ted Leonard (also ex- ENCHANT) on guitar and vocals, Dave Meros (bass) who played on Spock’s Beard’s brilliant debut “The Light” and on their last studio album “Noise Floor” in 2018 and Jimmy Keegan on drums and vocals. They are joined by writer/ producer/ keyboards player John Boegehold. And rest assured the band’s mission statement is “music that’s progressive and intricate while keeping things immediate and melodic”.

If this has whetted your appetite detailed reviews on all four albums can be read on PROG ARCHIVES (link at foot of our Home page).
