MIKE STERN/BOB BERG BAND – ESTEVAL JAZZ (Kipepeo publishing, 2023)

I discovered this label through Bandcamp: the releases I’ve seen curate jazz concerts of old at the affordable price of £3 for a download. Mike Stern is the guitarist, Bob Berg a tenor saxophonist, Lincoln Goines an electric bassist, and Dennis Chambers is the drummer. This particular recording is of a concert at the Piazza Della Riforma Luguano on 3rd July, 1991. ‘Chromazone’ is a finely constructed piece to start things off, and all-in-all a double album’s worth of music reveals a band on top form. It’s a pity there is no physical product though. Checking out some of Kipepeo’s other releases is also recommended.
