LA NOUVELLE MUSIQUE (Fruits de Mer Records) (LP) (Release date – 30th June, 2025)

A heads up for this album by Joanna Beck and Ian de Silva that they describe as “cinematic psychedelia, mixing the psych/ folk elements of ‘folktronica’, bassist Joanna’s vocal style drawing similarities to Francois Hardy of Nico. Songs like the catchy drum propelled ‘New Blood’, the intense panoramic chanteuse style of ‘Ballad of a Broken Wing’, the early Joni Mitchell sounding acoustic number ‘Crazy Lady Blues’, the arpeggiated acoustic guitar led ‘Time Ticks Slowly’ (with piano) and the dramatic production of ‘Catalonia’ make an early impression. And ‘Polestar’ made me think of Nick Drake for some reason, a very good thing in my book!
