JOHN BATTEMA – LIGHT BECOMES… (Bandcamp) (2024)

John Battema (of EPHEMERAL SUN) has created four tracks of piano/ synth-based music statring with ‘The Sun Comforts the Night at Dawn’ which, in my imagination, perfectly depicts a sunrise with chimes, ‘orchestral’ strings touches, as it reaches a crescendo, leading towards a haunting piano denouement. The rest incorporates synthesised voices to build an atmosphere best listened to as a whole, and repeatedly, to appreciate all the subtle nuances within the music. It all leads towards ‘Silhouette at Dawn’ which has some lovely arpeggios and counter melodies. This is accomplished and deeply moving ambient music for relaxation and contemplation, a much-need antidote to this manic world we are living in at the moment.
