A blast from the past: I’m listening again to ‘Hypnotiser’. Right away the palpable spacey groove hauls you in for a ‘Lift Off’. The title track continues the journey: “Let’s have a look at the Earth- Professor, what do you see?”, a lethargic, hypnotic listen. The line-up is Sergio Ceballos on guitar and voice, Sula Bassana on bass and Pablo Carneval on drums, all original pieces of around 10 minutes in length except for ‘Kosmos Amigos’ which is instantly recognisable as a traditional Spanish piece. There are some pretty far out effects which make for a very lysergic listen, the reverberating guitar on ‘Float Boat’ taking us back to Steve Hillage’s “Fish Rising” a bit with a touch of Daevid Allen glissando of course! This reaches a great crescendo as a potent guitar riff concludes the piece. There is also a bonus 14-minute King Crimson-ish live track from 2009 with Sula on guitar and different bass players. This time around I hear a big Hawkwind influence as well on the equivalent of two LPs on one CD – well worth checking out.
