HISTERESIS – ASALTO AL CIELO (2024) (Mylodon Records)

This is Histeresis’s second album following “Histéresis Magnética" in 2022. Opener ‘Sensorial’ features a fluid synth solo and some mazy metal guitar. ‘Le canción de Laura’ is a 6-minute semi-ballad with playful synth and syncopated rhythms that should be a winner with prog rock fans. ‘Carrusel’ is rip-roaring heavy metal, a bit of growling but not too much, and blazing guitars with synths weaved into the formula and some interesting percussion, sounding like when OPETH entered their Prog Metal era. A ballad, ‘Le pido a Dios’ is one of the album’s strongest tracks, but nothing prepares the listener for the epic closer ‘Esclavo del tiempo’, a 19-minute exposition of YES-inflected prog, filmic and symphonic in style, with additional guest musicians including saxophone: another top-notch prog record at the heavier end of the spectrum from Mylodon.
