An exact facsimile of the original Charisma Records LP with a inner bad and liner note insert, “Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music” lays to bed the myth that, as Joe Banks puts it in his “Hawkwind: Days of the Underground” book, Hawkwind songs sound all the same as “their 70s output is defined by its sheer diversity of styles” and this 1976 album “is where the real schism in style begins”. Banks does an insightful track to track in his book but suffice to say that, with Robert Calvert at the helm, the album heralded a new golden era for the band with classic tracks like ‘Steppenwolf’ ‘Kerb Crawler’ and ‘Reefer Madness’.
