EVENINGS AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD: JOHN COLTRANE WITH ERIC DOLPHY (1961/ 2023)

We’ve waited over six decades for this: the tapes were lost, then found, then mislaid, then found again at the New York Public Library. This particular double LP I cannot resist and, at £40 including P&P on Amazon, I have my pre-order in for the 14th July release on Impulse. I’m sure it will be just as revelatory as Coltrane’s “Both Directions At Once” which made #15 on the UK album charts in 2018. There are 80 minutes of music and just five pieces: ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Impressions’, ‘Greensleeves’, ‘When Lights are Low’ and ‘Africa’.
