DANZA DE LA IRA – SEPTIES KAIROS (2024) (Mylodon Records)

A well-conceived, played and produced album by Chilean prog rock newcomers Danza de la Ira, “Septies Kairos” is a concept album about time. Kairos means that time contracts or expands according to the quality of the moments of each person who experiences it, so time is relative. Waiting for the right moment is all important. Well, the band’s time has come and, for a debut, “Septies Kairos” is a mature album with thoughtful synth, piano and guitar work and an empathetic rhythm section. The intense ‘Impulso Distante’ covers a lot of ground over its 8-minutes with strong vocal harmonies. The instrumental ‘Taured’ reveals a heavier side to the band’s music, with a funky gallop, and oriental scales, a real melting pot of styles. The ascending blues-based guitar on ’Kairos’ made me think of Robin Trower’s early work with Procol Harum. The dramatic ‘Ocaso del Inmortal’ was inspired by a Jorge Lius Borges story, a sitar sound to begin with, polished off by a fluent synth solo. ‘Diablo Concido’ is a fast bossa-nova that transmogrifies, with a counterpoint that accommodates guitar and keyboard solos. The reflective album closer ‘Tras el Despertar’ incorporates a harmonic section redolent of Erik Satie.

Danza De La Ira is another important addition to the impressive Mylodon catalogue of progressively minded groups.
