ALIANTE – ANIME INVISIBLI (MaRaCASH Records) (2024)

“Anime Invisibili” is described in the press release as a long suite in four movements redolent of the Canterbury style music of the 70s but also of Camel, Genesis, Greenslade, Mike Oldfield and Pink Floyd – quite a lot to live up to then! The line-up is Davide Capitanio (guitars), Michele Lenzi (keys, bassoon, flute), Alfonso Capasso (bass) and Jacopo Guisti (drums) and this is Aliante’s fourth album since their formation in 2017. The approach is challenging: a concept album that is all-instrumental (with the occasional soundbyte), not easy to do, especially when trying to make the music relevant to the new millennium. The album sticks to the middle road of prog, nothing too unexpected, but within enough variations to pique and sustain the ears, of a sensible length (around the 40-minute mark) and, to nostalgists who fondly recall Camel in particular, “Anime Invisibli” is a welcome reminder of the halcyon days of prog.
